After serving up scoops from a food truck, Spun Ice Cream’s permanent second location is now open. The new spot, housed inside a brightly colored shipping container, can be found outside the Whole Foods Market in the trendy Domain Northside.

“Growing up in Austin, we’ve always seen Whole Foods Market as one of the great icons in the sustainable food movement that has shaped us as entrepreneurs,” says Ashley Cheng, co-owner and marketing manager, in a release. “It’s a huge milestone for us to launch our second official location in partnership with Whole Foods Market, whose vision and support of our community we respect so deeply.”

Spun is the brainchild of sisters Christina and Ashley Cheng, whose family owns Austin favorite Chinatown. Each serving of ice cream is made to order using “the magic of liquid nitrogen,” which freezes extremely fast and creates a dessert that’s creamier and smoother than its counterparts.

Like the original outpost, which opened on East Seventh Street in December 2015, the Domain location serves house-made seasonal toppings in addition to dairy- and gluten-free options, using local ingredients when possible.

Opening menu items include dark chocolate, sweet cream, and dairy-free caramel, with toppings like hand-cut sprinkles. Spun will continue to offer rotating specials like the Texas Rocky Road (dark chocolate ice cream, pecan praline, and toasted meringue) and The Butter Pecan (sweet cream ice cream, pecan praline, and brown butter powder).

Look for Spun, complete with a shaded patio and picnic tables, outside Whole Foods Market at 11920 Domain Dr. Hours are 12:30-10 pm daily.
