We all know the holidays become overwhelming very quickly. That’s why we’ve created our December Not to Be Missed. We picked five categories and selected our favorites in each. Now get out and enjoy Austin! 

Free: Austin Trail of Lights 
December 10-16 from 7-10 p.m. | Zilker Park, Austin
Admission is free from December 10-16. (From December 17-23, general admission is $3 for guests age 12 and up. Tickets available here.) Children 11 and under are free every night! Parking passes and shuttle tickets are available online.


Eat: Christmas Dinner at dine

December 25th from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. | 111 E. Cesar Chavez

Their Christmas Day buffet includes all your classic favorites, more than 40 sweet & savory offerings, roasted turkey, honey ham, brisket, sweet potato casserole, country stuffing, deviled eggs, homemade biscuits, apple pie, pumpkin custard & more! Art: Monika Sosnowska: Habitat

November 22 – February 26 | Jones Center, Austin

Visit the exhibit Habitat at The Contemporary Austin – Jones Center (newly renovated), Sosnowska’s largest monographic exhibition to date at a U.S. museum, the artist has created an immersive, two-floor installation of dystopic domesticism. For even more fun become a member and attend the Grand Reopening Celebration on December 16th from 6-9 p.m.


Performance: The Nutcracker – Ballet Austin

December 3-23 at 7:30 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. | The Long Center, Austin

The holiday season officially begins with the return of Ballet Austin’s The Nutcracker, now celebrating its 54th year as the longest-running production of its kind in the State of Texas. It features enchanting sets and costumes, animated choreography and a cast of hundreds, including Ballet Austin’s professional company of dancers and the accomplished students of the Ballet Austin Academy. Drink: Mulled Wine at Small Victory Bar

Monday – Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. | 108 E. 7th St.

Tucked away in a parking garage off Congress Ave, Small Victory is bringing classic cocktails back to the downtown scene. Each drink on the menu has a bit of history and there’s even a choose-your-own martini adventure. Their mulled wine is our hot holiday drink of choice and if that’s not your style, they have an egg-nog concoction that will knock your socks off.
